Workplace etiquette is important to consider whilst working on applying for placement next year. Like most of my peers, I have never worked in a formal office space, and don’t know exactly what to expect.
Studio etiquette
- Be enthusiastic and pleasant about the work you are doing. Don’t appear as though you hate your job and everyone around you.
- Be punctual, be on time.
- Dress appropriately for the workspace. Different workplaces have dress codes.
- If appropriate, use headphones for music, but at a low level so your colleagues can still get your attention.
- Be mindful of others. Keep your volume down.
- Don’t gossip, there are office politics everywhere.
- Keep areas clean, help tidy up. This leaves a good impression on people, and shows good communal effort.
- No smelly food. (No fish, boiled eggs and pickled onion).
- Offer tea and coffee if you drink it. Be friendly.
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions. People appreciate questions. You are there to learn.
- Your colleagues are human too.

💡
Make sure to keep your design files organised. Always label your work relatively, keep things easy to navigate (for the sake of yourself and others). Save in iterations in a logical way. You will be working collaboratively.
