I had four main ideas that I liked the most; a weather app that made recommendations on suitable clothing, an airport assistant, an accessibility assistant, and a social app which allows a group to keep track of each other on a night out. My favourites would be the airport assistant and the social app. I found that the airport assistant was very information heavy, and so I went for the bolder and visually focused social app.
This was the party assistant app from my sketches which I settled on as my best suited idea for a smartwatch.
After I decided on my idea, I decided to elaborate on it, mind-mapping out some problems with nights out. My idea here was to see if my app could solve any of these pain points. I had many ideas for features based on this, but I ended up scrapping most of the ideas. I did this because I didn't want the app to become too over-saturated, instead opting for a few key features. If this project had of been longer than a week long I would have kept these extra features. Some honourable mentions include; a feature that shows takeaways open near you (for the end of the night), a notification that detects if you are in a car over the limit, and a notification that shows how many of your contacts are in your close proximity.
My first pass of mid-fis in figma looked mostly similar to the end results, only less refined of course. I wanted to keep my screens simple, as I was designing them to fit on an apple watch, and didn't want to busy the small screen. I learnt this from my research looking at various smart-watch applications. I made sure that my text was big enough and that my graphics/icons were eye-catching.
I chose the typeface ‘Kodchasan’ as I wanted a friendly, welcoming vibe. I found that this sans-serif geometric typeface suited this. I also liked that is was rounded.
