For this project I had to create a dashboard full of infographics representing data I collected on my daily behaviour and habits within a week of my life. The desired outcome was to create a fully interactive and informative dashboard that had a good user experience.
In this project I had to represent a lot of data which I collected myself in a presentable and non-confusing way. This was a tricky project as I wanted to collect interesting information, but while maintaining my privacy. It would have to include infographics, so the data I had to collect would have to be quantifiable to some degree.
I started off the project by colleting data on my behaviour each day of the week. I used my notes app on my phone instead of a notepad as this way I would always have my log at the ready to edit and update. I recorded the distance I travelled, where I travelled to and the mode of transport. I also recorded what I drank each day (excluding water) and what I ate for breakfast.
After I had collected all the data I needed, I moved onto research. I looked at infographics and researched ISOTYPE before moving onto sketching and wireframing.
Next I determined my colour scheme and began creating my icons and infographics. I then applied this colour scheme to my wireframes and started to add my content. I also made components and prototyped my dashboard.
I found this project to be very helpful in my learning how to prototype and create components. I also found the process helped me understand how to create an effective UI, and how to present information effectively. I struggled at first with how to present my data in the most visually interesting way, and also with how to retain my privacy within the project.
